இந்திய அணிக்கு எதிரான 2ஆவது ஒரு நாள் போட்டியில் நியூசிலாந்து அணி 7 விக்கெட்டுகளை இழந்து திணறி வருகிறது அந்த அணி 50 ஓவர் முடிவில் 8 விக்கெட்டுகள் இழப்புக்கு 273 ரன்களை சேர்த்துள்ளது.
இந்திய அணி நியூசிலாந்தில் சுற்றுப் பயணம் செய்து 5 டி20 போட்டிகள், 3 ஒரு நாள் போட்டிகள் மற்றும் 2 டெஸ்ட் போட்டிகளில் பங்கேற்க உள்ளது. முதலில் நடைபெற்ற டி20 தொடரை 5-0 என்ற கணக்கில் இந்தியா கைப்பற்றியது. இதனையடுத்து நடைபெற்ற முதல் ஒருநாள் போட்டியில் 347 ரன்கள் குவித்தும் இந்தியா 4 விக்கெட் வித்தியாசத்தில் நியூசிலாந்திடம் தோல்வி அடைந்தது.
இந்நிலையில் ஆக்லாந்தில் நடைபெற்று வரும் இரண்டாவது ஒருநாள் போட்டியில் டாஸ் வென்ற இந்திய அணியின் கேப்டன் விராட் கோலி முதலில் பவுலிங் செய்ய தீர்மானித்தார். இதனையடுத்து நியூசிலாந்து அணியின் தொடக்க வீரர்களான மார்டின் குப்திலும், நிக்கோல்ஸும் களமிறங்கினர். இருவரும் மிகவும் நிதானமான ஆட்டத்தையே வெளிப்படுத்தினர். நியூசிலாந்து அணி 93 ரன்கள் சேர்த்திருந்தபோது சாஹல் பந்துவீச்சில் நிக்கோல்ஸ் 41 ரன்களுக்கு ஆட்டமிழந்தார். ஆனால் மறுமுனையில் ரன் வேகத்தை அதிகப்படுத்தினார் குப்தில். அப்போது இந்திய அணியின் சிறப்பான பீல்டிங் காரணமாக குப்தில் 79 ரன்களுக்கு ரன் அவுட்டானார்.
